Oohh weee I woke up with an attitude because I didn’t get hardly any sleep. By the time I went to bed after packing it was 4am and around 6am was when doors started slamming and people were out and about outside (I can can hear them and the cars and they are loud). By the time it was time for me to get up at 7:40am I really didn’t want to. I also felt a little sore in my right knee and that’s the last thing I needed. Either yesterday or the day before I added a last minute activity for Prague and it was the Prague Guided Sightseeing Tour by Electric Trike.
I decided to do this activity over a bus tour because I didn’t want to be disappointed again like I was in Frankfurt and Munich. Looking at the trike there was one wheel in the front and two in the back so I figured I can handle that (it’s not like it’s a motorcycle). That activity was to start at 9:30am but I had to secure and store my luggage first. Thankfully the host had an area outside the apartment that I could lock so I’d be able to come back for my things.
I Ubered to my meeting spot but Uber today has been all over the place with drivers bouncing around and long wait times. The Uber put me there very close to the meeting time and they were waiting on myself and another couple (one couple from Australia were already there) and then there was Dippy our English guide and another woman who was the Spanish guide for the other couple coming.
We went inside the garage where everything was stored and had to sign paperwork (no liability, don’t break the vehicle, etc.). We were going to spend a good 20 minutes getting trained on how to operate the vehicle and all the functions. Once we did a few rounds I think everyone got the hang of it. The Spanish couple made it and they did the training as well. We all left out together and stuck together throughout the tour.
I enjoyed operating the electric trike as I’ve never done so before but it’s not much different from an ATV (like a cross between that and a moped). We stopped by sites such as the Charles Bridge, National Museum, Prague Castle, Metronome and Lennon’s Wall amongst others. It could get a little tricky navigating the trike on the cobblestone streets but no accidents were had.
Overall I captured a lot of videos and pictures to remember facts for and just for memories. We were blessed because it didn’t begin to rain until after the activity was over. I had to head straight to another activity that I had booked via Airbnb, Paint Your Own Enamel Mug in Prague. Mugs have been my recent collectibles so being able to create my own was extra unique.
The small shop was busy and it was attached to a souvenir store which was perfect because I still needed to get Prague souvenirs/magnets. I changed the color of the base of my mug slightly and went with something basic since I’m not an artist. It took about a good 2 hours doing different layers then baking it then repeat. Overall I wish it looked better but hey it’s unique and it’s mine.
It was raining outside now and there were still 2 things I needed to do before I went to the train station and that was go see the Astrology clock and stop by another supermarket. I Ubered down by the clock and it was a big and busy area (the rain ended up stopping). The clock is in fact a sight to see so I’m glad I went down there. Because there were so many shops around I popped in a few but had no luck finding something unique. I did manage to stop at a sandwich shop and get one to go.
I walked around and outside of the area more than I wanted to looking for a bathroom I could go to. I stumbled upon a mall and there they also had a grocery store which was perfect. I was able to use the bathroom and go to the store and then order and Uber back to the Airbnb to get my luggage. (I took Ubers in Prague because they were cheap and for timing purposes). Once back at the Airbnb I got my things and had to wait the longest time for an Uber to Prague Central Station.
The goal was there was a bookstore in the station I needed to go to to get a book for a younger cousin so I would do that and then go sit down where I needed to catch the train at. I was really hoping the train station had carts for luggage but I was told only the airport had them. My bags were heavy and carrying them all around was weighing me down. I found the bookstore and 2 books so I felt content enough with what I got from Prague.
I found the CD Lounge which was the brand of trains I was taking the overnight train on. I showed my ticket for access and sat down. Afterwhile I went searching for a bathroom and picked up a few drinks. I used that time without my bags on me to move around a bit. Back in the lounge I began writing this write-up and then had to stop because I was so sleepy. I ended up falling asleep for a bit as I waited on the status of my train.
I woke up with about an hour left of waiting and as time winded down it finally appeared, I needed to go to platform 4. I asked the lounge attendant where that was and he said, “Upstairs one level and that it wasn’t far”. Well I went upstairs and after walking and walking it wasn’t apparent as to where it was. I stopped to ask people and some didn’t know and some even led me in the wrong direction. I was about to panic, I had all these bags, all this weight and I couldn’t figure out where I was going.
By the grace of God I asked a woman who actually knew and led me to the platform. It was making sense now as I was beginning to see and pass platforms 1-3 and I nearly ran up to 4 sweating and almost out of breath. As soon as I saw my train on the platform I hopped on. Again nearly out of breath I asked someone who worked on the train where to go and showed him my ticket and he said I had to go further up. How far is further I asked, to which he just answered with further up. They were really starting to piss me off that this point not giving me concrete directions while I’m carrying around all this heavy stuff!
I didn’t matter, I was on the train so if I had to go further up I was walking through the cars. Finally an employee with some sense told me how many cars up I had to walk to get to the right one. Once there I was shown my single compartment. I was mad by now because clearly most people taking a sleeper are tourists, help them, show them where to go, damn! I nearly threw my things down and sat on the bed to catch my breath. I then observed my compartment and waited on another employee (as I could hear him making his rounds) come and give me the rundown.
(I’ll call him Tim because I don’t remember) Tim came by and told me I get a free breakfast and he wanted to get my order tonight. After that he showed me where things were in my compartment and how to operate them. He told me he’d either be in room #12 (I was in #5) or the kitchen if I needed him; I thanked him. There’s no bathroom in my compartment but everyone has to use their room key to get in either bathroom at the end of the hall.
I settled in, checked the bed of course (bedbugs be damned-I do everything in power to not ever have a situation where I have to deal with that) and all was clear. I got my sandwich out and ate that while everyone else got settled in around me.Then of course I tried to finish the write-up but had to lay down and de-stress from the run to the train and to sleep I went for a few hours. The train left at 20:53 (8:53pm) and it was now 12:34am when I woke up again.
I’m not due to get to Warzsawa Centralna station until 9:08am so I have plenty more time to sleep, plus I’ll get a wake-up call an hour before. I’ve noticed with it now being 1:15am that for the last 20 minutes we’ve been sitting at this station Bohumín and I’m not sure why. Well I’m done with this write-up for today, let’s hope all goes well once we get to Warsaw, Poland my last stop/country before I head back to Berlin to go home (and I’m ready to go home).
