I woke up feeling so achy and was fine when I went to bed last night. My Airbnb in Munich is probably my least favorite so far because my body didn’t like the bed and every morning my back was hurting (just moreso today). Also I have to share a bathroom with 2 other units, the doors are loud and heavy and there’s no shoes in the house (not even house shoes). I won’t count that against the host but I wouldn’t stay there again.
Anyway today I check-out and head to Prague but not before I do my Munich Big Bus Tour. Honestly if it wasn’t for the bus tour there’d be no write-up today because I’m exhausted and quite frankly the tour wasn’t even that great (but I’ll get to that in a minute). I’m excited to get to Prague because I’ll have the apartment to myself (I haven’t had a place to myself since the hotel in Berlin-luckily my place in Poland is to myself too). As I began packing my things I saw I was going to have a lot to carry which is just annoying.
After packing up the cleaner nearly knocks me over opening the door as I was about to leave out (she apologized). I had 2 heavy bags to now carry with my bookbag (which is heavier due to shuffling some things around). Even though the tram was across the street I couldn’t directly go there I would have to go all the way to the end of the block and cross the street. I caught an Uber to the start point of the Big Bus Munich tour and that was probably the best.
I got to the stop right after 11am missing that 11am bus. Once at the stop I had to exchange my ticket for an actual ticket but thankfully another bus was there waiting so I quickly got on. I need to sit every chance I get today. Unloading all of my things was such a sigh of relief but I felt it, the back and shoulder pain (thank goodness it’s not my ankles even though I still walk slow). I settled in to a handicapped corner of 4 seats and took a breath. Thank goodness everything else I’m doing is low key in the other countries.
When the tour began I quickly realized it was like Frankfurt’s where things weren’t stated in a timely manner making me miss a few things. I was able to capture just a little bit of what I felt was important and if it wasn’t I was alseep (I did fall asleep a few times). Here they are:
•The Englischer Garten in Munich is the largest inner-city park in the world
•The Isar River in Munich has 20 bridges that go over it
•(Random) The Greek Goddess of Victory is called Nike
•Munich’s Golden Mile is their most expensive street
•Munich has about 1.3 million people
•Munich is the 3rd largest city in Germany after Berlin and Hamburg
When it was time to get off I wasn’t ready as I now had to carry all my things to Munich Central Station. I caught the tram across the street 1 stop there but had to hustle my things while taking breaks every so often because everything was just so heavy. I after some time made it to Platform 26 to catch the 14:44 (2:44pm) train to Prague (ideally I would’ve liked to catch the one before but hey, not enough time).
Thank God there was a seat and I sat and sighed. I wasn’t moving until it was time to get on the train. The train pulled up early, around 2pm and I saw people getting on so I followed suit. There are bunkers set for 6 people so in true me fashion I used up 2 seats (because I can’t even lift my bag that high to put it up on the rack). Another woman from Boston she said came and sat in the booth with me. I heard talks of someone saying they were on the wrong train so I asked her if this was headed to Prague and she said yes. While sitting and checking my emails I saw Cologne needed to evacuate people today due to the discovery of 3 undiffused American WWII bombs…crazy right?!
Thank the Lord the train just left the station. Not too long after the train departed an Asian woman named Alice came and joined me in the bunker. She told me she was from Boston but now lives in Regensburg but she visits Munich to see her daughter who stays with her German dad. Alice and I had a good conversation about a few things. She told me:
•When renting or buying a place in Germany you pay 3 months deposit plus the 1st month
•Some places come with no kitchen so be sure to put a check next to kitchen
•The 30 days vacation isn’t as great as people think it is
•They have where before you’re hired where employers can use you for a free trial up to 10 hours
After we chatted for a while I dosed off but woke up in time to tell her goodbye at her stop. I would be on the train until 8:22pm before I reach my destination. Shortly after the train leaves her station a train employee went around asking where people were going. As I got ready to show him my ticket I said, “Prague” and he told me I was sitting in the wrong part of the train and needed to move down 2 cars. A bit annoyed, I gathered my things and shuffled down.
This seating arrangement was definitely not as comfortable as the bunker of seats. Throughout the journey others joined me in the area and I nodded off and on to sleep. The ride seemed very long but it was only about 5 hrs (well on a train that is long to me). When we finally arrived in Prague my main objective was to get somewhere where I could call an Uber and get to my Airbnb asap. I was hungry by now but I wanted to drop off my things and then get food.
It didn’t take long for me to make my way out the station, call for an Uber and get to the apartment. The apartment is a cute studio apartment. I dropped off my things and saw there was a grocery store up the street that would close soon so I made my way up there. I bought a few things from the store (even some heat up meals) and made my way back in. Immediately like I’ve done I changed into my lounge clothes and just had to lay down for a bit.
It had been a long day. Afterwhile I called my mom to catch up with her and admitted I’m ready to go home now. I miss my bed, my space, American food, but I’m going to see what Prague and Poland have to offer. I’m definitely going in seclusion a few days when I get back though. I could hear it raining and thundering outside now. And I drifted off to sleep just to wake up at 3am, eat and finish this write-up.
