Georgetown, Guyana: “Meet Me in the Mall it’s Going Down”

I slept in today and with good reason. We got in kind of late last night and I was exhausted from the day. I showered, ate and headed for the bed but was not done my write-up for the day. At one moment it all she seemed like too much and anxiety was creeping in so I forced myself to stop where I was at and go to bed. I woke up a couple of times throughout the night and around 6am I attempted to upload photos and videos but I kept falling asleep. 8am I did the same thing and fell asleep. It wasn’t until I woke up around 10am that I managed to stay awake.

I knew I wasn’t going to attempt to get up until after noon for I felt as though I deserved that much for going to bed late and exhausted. At about 1:15pm I had everything written and posted and was then ready to begin my day. I had no idea what we would end up doing today but once I consulted with Kassandra we would figure it out. We opted to go to Giftland Mall and aimed to get out around 3:15pm.

The taxi came and once at the mall as soon as you step inside you see Christmas decorations. We started with the first store that caught our attention which was a Giftland store and think of it as a Walmart because they had everything. It felt like we spent 45 mins to an hour in that store alone. There were some nice things but for it being in Guyana I thought it was expensive. I ended up getting extra toilet paper for the Airbnb, a “One Guyana” souvenir pin for myself, a magnet and some candy to save and take on the plane home (if it makes it until then).

I expected to see a few more brand name stores or at least more well known named but most were boutique (though there was an Ashley’s Furniture). The food court had more options than Amazonia Mall and I opted to go with a BBQ chicken bowl from a place called Boost (it was good but it’s missing something…). We sat in the food court and ate and a nice sized caramel cheesecake was eaten beforehand. The mall was crowded, there were barely any empty seats.

After eating and walking the rest of the mall we opted to go as it was about to close anyway (10pm). We got a taxi to take us back to the Airbnb. I decided to do my laundry tonight because I need some clean clothes for tomorrow and I’d rather go ahead and do it so I don’t have to worry about it tomorrow. It’s 12:28am, my clothes are in the dryer and when they’re done and I pack them away to I’m going to bed. Today was another lite day so we’ll see what we get into tomorrow…

There’s something about going to the mall when you’re away (you have to see what new unique things they have).
