It was a long night with not enough sleep knowing I needed to be up early for a tour this morning. Today I had arranged a tour through GetYourGuide to do an Eco Walk, Ziplining and Beach Day. I’ll be at the beach tomorrow morning so I opted to skip that portion today so that I would have time to drive around town running some errands. My tour was set to begin at 8am but I completely forgot about our exchange through What’s App. I was going off my ticket on the GetYourGuide app and the meeting place was at one of the cruise ports so that’s where I went. Well I got down there and couldn’t find the meetup spot. I parked and walked one way, then walked the other way, crossed the street and nothing. I read and re-read the email so many times but still couldn’t find it and didn’t even see some of the landmarks mentioned (I saw one). So after about 20 minutes I got back in the car and went back to the Airbnb.
Once there, I checked What’s App and then saw and remembered that they would pick me up at 9am there at the Aribnb. I was just glad that I didn’t miss them and they went on without me. I had assumed there would be other people on the tour with me (because a lot of tours here didn’t really want to cater to a solo traveler) and they assumed that it was more than just myself so we were both surprised to realize I was the only one today. The shuttle took me literally right up the street because even though there are many zip line locations thankfully that was the one I was at-South Shore Zip-Line Adventures.
I put my things in a locker, got my protective gear and was guided to where we would begin. I was given a brief demonstration by Alvin and Kevin as they showed me the different controls. Luckily I had ziplined before even though it was over 10 years ago I don’t remember it being difficult. We did a test run first and all went well so we kept going. Line after line we went. Some were long, some dipped low, all of them were high (lol) but the main focus was to let yourself go as fast as possible until you get very close to the end and then you brake yourself. If you do like I did at one point and brake yourself too early then you will have to pull yourself in by turning backwards and using your arms.
It was a lot of fun flying through the jungle of the Honduras on this hot Sunday morning. At least while going you get a nice breeze and a beautiful view. It was just as I remembered but this time I did it internationally (the first time I ziplined actually was on my birthday in North Carolina many years ago). We were all hot and sweaty afterwards and so happy to get in a cool shuttle. The Eco Walk was in the same area and another guide Willie took me along that. Willie is from Nicaragua and so we talked about that, the different fruit trees we saw along the way, potential animals we might see and Honduran food.
Apparently people eat iguanas here (Kevin had said it’s better than chicken which I in turn said, “No thanks”). Interestingly enough though apparently it’s illegal and so if you want iguana you have to say “pick chicken” and some people will know what it is you mean. Willie said people have different names for it (which I thought was confusing) but it didn’t matter that much to me because I wasn’t going to try any. We saw a lot of iguanas along the walk most of them blending in with their surroundings. We walked across about 8 different suspension bridges which were wobbly but well supported. There wasn’t much wind today like the last few days and we were both beaming in sweat.
After the walk since I opted out of going to the beach today the shuttle took me back to the Airbnb. I knew that there were a few stores that I wanted to go to and I needed to go today because my day and time is already set tomorrow for other things. I took a moment to freshen up and hopped in the car. Thankfully I was able to get everything that I needed within the 4 places that I visited. I got back in pretty early maybe 2:30pm freshened up and stretched out. Though the day was not long the night before was and the morning was action packed so I was tired. I took some time to just lay down and then I got my recap started. Today is my last full day here so it’s time to enjoy the space a little bit and I need to pack. I do have some activities to look forward to in the morning though…
